Opened in July 2021, The Ledge was built to transform a former granite quarry into something truly unique – a performance space that honors the area’s natural and industrial history while offering a top-tier entertainment experience. The result? A stunning open-air amphitheater that feels equal parts concert venue and nature escape.

The idea for The Ledge was years in the making, driven by the city of Waite Park’s desire to invest in arts, culture, and community. The project was designed by Oertel Architects, a Minnesota-based firm known for its creative work on public and cultural spaces. Their vision brought to life a venue that blends beautifully into the rocky surroundings, using the exposed granite walls as a dramatic backdrop to the stage and seating areas. The natural quarry setting gives the space a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that feels rustic and refined.

Since its grand opening, The Ledge has quickly gained recognition as one of the Midwest’s premier outdoor venues. It’s hosted many artists and events – from The Beach Boys and Jewel to The Stray Cats, Cypress Hill, and major community festivals. The amphitheater is especially praised for its excellent acoustics, comfortable seating, and scenic environment, drawing crowds from all over Minnesota and beyond.

The name “The Ledge” was chosen through a community vote, reflecting the venue’s location amidst historic granite quarries. This nod to Waite Park’s rich quarrying past adds a layer of local significance to every event held there. 

Not just that, but the amphitheater’s design takes advantage of the natural granite surroundings, not just for aesthetics but also for acoustics. The stone formations help enhance sound quality, providing audiences with an exceptional auditory experience.

Artists who have performed at the venue (and are due to) include Goo Goo Dolls with Dashboard Confessional, Joe Nichols, Barenaked Ladies, Warren Zeiders, Earth, Wind, Fire, Bonnie Raitt, and Weird Al. The outdoor arena has something for everyone!
